FAQ's

Here are some of the frequently asked questions.
Food - We are a self-catered resort (meaning there is no restaurant on premises). All cabins and chalets have a full kitchen (plates, utensils, pots/pans, etc are all provided). Please plan for your stay! Just an fyi: The Foodland (grocery store) in the town of Havelock is 24hrs!

Bug Stuff - Mosquitoes, black flies, etc can be a bother in rural Ontario. We absolutely love the various products from Thermacell which can be bought at most major stores (ie: Canadian Tire). Bug spray, and mosquito coils are not a bad idea either!

Sunscreen - If you forget, we'll usually have you covered in our office tuck shop

Toiletries - The Trace does not provide soap or shampoo.

Beach Towels - The Trace provides bath and hand towels in all washrooms, however we do not offer any beach towels for your time spent at the lakefront docks and terrace.

Drinks/Alcohol - The Trace is not licensed to sell alcohol. Please plan accordingly. Also, the Havelock LCBO (liqour store), like most small town LCBOs, closes earlier than it does in major cities (usually, 6pm!)

Coffee - all rooms at The Trace have a drip coffee machine and filters. Bring your own coffee.

Salt/pepper/oil are not provided.
We require a 30% deposit that will be charged to your credit card upon booking. You may cancel, worry and penalty free, 14 days prior to your arrival.  The initial 30% deposit becomes non-refundable once we are within 14 days of your arrival.  Full payment of your stay will be charged to the credit card on file 72 hours prior to your arrival and is non-refundable at that time.
Your unit will be available from 3PM onward on the date of your arrival. Please notify us via email info@thetrace.ca if you will not be arriving until after 9 PM. Check out is 11AM on the day of your departure.
We are unable to accommodate or guarantee early check-ins. We do our best to have your unit ready early however as we have a small housekeeping team, units are generally not ready until 3 PM.

As with early check-ins, we are unable to guarantee the availability of late check-outs.  As we have limited time to turn over units for the next guest, late check outs are generally not available. Should your unit not have a same day check in, a late check out for 2pm may be requested for a $50 fee.

If you would like to use the property or amenities prior to your check-in or after you check-out, our office washroom is available to use/change in and personal belongings must be left in your car.
The Trace hopes to be a tranquil wellness-inspired resort for adults. "As such, children under the age of 19 are not permitted during Summer months. The 19+ restriction comes into effect on the May long-weekend, and lasts until the end of the labour day weekend. After labour day, children are allowed to visit.
Unfortunately The Trace does not allow 1 night stays. This includes a 2 night stay split between different Cabins.
The Trace now has WiFi in all the cabins, chalets and most common areas of the resort.  We encourage folks wanting to work remote to give it a go! On the very rare occasion that the WiFi goes down, LTE is reasonably steady around most of the property as well – and should be sufficient for tethering for emails and other light use.
The Trace currently has air conditioning in the following cabins: #3, #7, #8, #9, #10, #11. Air conditioning is mentioned in the cabin descriptions as well as given the AC icon . Cabins and chalets without this icon are not air conditioned, but will have ceiling and/or stand-up fans.
We love dogs! You'll no doubt meet Abby (our JackChi) at some point during your stay.

Dogs are welcome at The Trace with a cleaning fee of $50 CAD per dog, per reservation, to a maximum of two dogs per cabin/chalet.

Dogs must be supervised and remain within your immediate vacinity at all times, and never be a burden on other guests of The Trace (some of whom, sadly, do not love dogs as much as we do).

Unfortunately, due to potential guest allergies we do not allow cats.
Management of The Trace has set the occupancy limits on the cabins very carefully considering factors such as: impact on resort grounds, impact on resort infrastructure (water/septic), noise, and others. We hope our guests can understand our need to preserve the integrity of the property and experience for all involved.

While we try to be as friendly, helpful and accommodating as possible with our cherished guest -- we also aim to set a high standard for the type of accommodations and guest experience we deliver at the property. For this reason, and numerous others, we will have no flexibility on the matter of occupancy.
For many of the same reasons described in the section above (regarding occupancy), The Trace does not allow day-visits by people who are not guests of the resort at any time. Occupancy limits (in the cabins and on resort grounds) are strictly observed at our property to ensure an optimal experience for our valued guests, and the proper function of all resort infrastructure.
Guests of The Trace can launch and moor their own boats at no cost.

Residents of Oak Lake (property owners) are welcomed to launch their boats at the start of the summer season (May-June), and pull their boats out of the water in the Fall at a cost of $20/per direction.

Non-Guests/Non-Residents (including anyone renting from or visiting a lake resident) are not permitted to use the boat ramp at The Trace.
We pull our tap water from Oak Lake, run it through 2 stages of filtration, and then chlorination. The water is tested regularly and is safe to drink! With that said, some guests may find a bit of a chlorine flavour to the water, and may prefer to bring their own, or buy the 4-Litre jugs that we sell at our tuck shop.
The Trace is proud to provide top notch hotel quality linens on all its beds.
Our tuck shop is small and only carries the most basic essentials that our guests may have forgotten. These include - soap, shampoo, feminine products, coffee, toothpaste, pop/gatorade/etc. Worms are available for fishing. It is always wise to call/email us to check if we have what you are looking for before you arrive.
We accept all major credit cards and cash payments. We do not accept Interac Debit at this time (there is no terminal for this on premises).
The Trace is located only 1h45m from Toronto.
The nearest town where guests will find all the essentials (grocery store, lcbo, gas, restaurants,Tim Hortons) is Havelock, and is a ~20minute drive.

Other towns within a 30-40 minute drive include Campbellford, Stoney Lake, Apsley, Norwood, Marmora, Lakefield, etc.
Every unit at The Trace comes with Satellite TV, which can come in quite handy when waiting out the rain! Further, our office is stocked with card and board games to pass the time, and we also have a large sheltered game-shed which includes Ping-Pong and Darts.
The short answer is no. The longer answer is that because we are a dog friendly property we ask that guest do not set off any fireworks at any time as many dogs can be extremely traumatized by the noise of fireworks being set off.
